Be aware! Scam e-mails and smses are still being sent under Smartpost name!

Every day, tens of thousands of people in Estonia receive notifications of packages awaiting collection – and scammers looking for new ways to make money are turning this to their advantage.

Fraudulent letters and messages are sent with only one goal – the fraudster wants to gain access to bank account data and cause financial loss. Therefore, do not under any circumstances do as these letters ask: do not update your contact information or make the requested transfers! You have to be especially careful because the e-mails/messages of scammers and the websites they refer to can be frighteningly similar to the real ones.

How to recognize that this is a fraudulent letter?

  1. The sender’s email address is suspicious. For example, we have received fraudulent emails from the following addresses: support@mail.hexi.ladesk.com, Smartpost-ee-3022@runlikecrazy.com, Smartpost-ee-5230@runlikecrazy.com, itella@galbebrody.freshdesk.com. Smartpost letters arrive from email addresses that end in @itella.com or @smartpost.ee.
  2. Visually, the letter does not look correct, for example, the wrong logo is used.
  3. Typos, strange language, eg:  Please update your information  /  Please note: If you do not pay within the next 24 hours, your package will be returned to the sender. / Your package has been prepared for delivery .
  4. Before clicking on the link, make sure that you are directed to the correct Smartpost website. For example, phishing emails have led to the following websites: sendfmedo.goldencloud.com.sa, sequre-web.cisco.com, xgtuatroyh.com.sa.

How to recognize that it is a message sent by a fraudster?

  1. The name of the sender is not correct – our messages always come under the name “Smartpost”.
  2. The message contains typos or strange language. For example: please update your personal information/ pay customs duty if you want to receive the package.
  3. The content of the message contains a link asking to pay the customs duty in advance in order to receive the package. Smartpost Itella will never ask you to pay customs through the link. If you are receiving a package for which it is known that import fees need to be paid, we will contact you and ask you to send us the e-mail address where we will send the documents to complete the declaration. You can fill out the declaration in the self-service of the Tax and Customs Board or buy it from us as an additional service. If you ordered the declaration from us, we will send you a standard invoice by e-mail, which you can pay in the internet bank. We never ask you to pay customs duty/import payment/declaration filling service fees through a web link.
  4. Be careful if the content of the message contains a link asking you to pay an additional fee for the delivery of a package or package. We can send a package with a ransom payment, and in this case the customer can receive an SMS asking to pay for the package. In our message, only a short link with the beginning link.itella.ee is used – this link forwards to the my.smartpost.ee page, where the payment can be made. Remember that we do not use any other links, and in case of the slightest doubt, please contact our customer service to make sure you have the correct link.

What to do if you received a suspicious letter/message?

  • If in doubt, do not provide personal data, do not make payments.
  • If you have received a suspicious message on behalf of Smartpost, please contact our customer service ( info@smartpost.ee  or  +372 60 11 000 ) to make sure that the link is genuine and safe to click on.
  • If you opened the incorrect link and entered your bank card details, contact the bank immediately to close the bank card.
  • Contact the police immediately if you have fallen victim to fraud.

Important to remember:

We only use these two websites: www.itella.ee and  my.smartpost.ee . Short links are used in the messages: link.itella.ee , which directs customers to the self-service page  my.smartpost.ee to pay . We never ask customers to pay through a web link for updating shipment details or for customs/import fees.
