2 million euros investment in parcel locker’s network expansion

Smartpost Itella invests 2 million euros in the Baltics, which supports the company’s strategic goal of becoming one of the leaders in the region.

“With this large investment, we want to increase the geographical coverage of the Baltics and get even closer to our customers,” said Gediminas Mickus, Head of Smartpost Itella Baltics. According to him the investment will be directed to improving the network of parcel lockers in the three Baltic countries. “Last year’s peak season clearly showed that the demand for Smartpost’s service has grown significantly,” Mickus added.

This year, the company plans to add 63 new parcel lockers in Latvia, 25 in Lithuania and 12 in Estonia. Across the Baltics, the Smartpost Itella network is growing by 10%. In addition, we are expanding the existing parcel lockers: there are plans to expand 40 locations in Latvia, 15 in Lithuania and 5 in Estonia.

“Smartpost volume in Latvia is currently growing the fastest thus has got the greatest demand for new locations is in the Latvian market, where we plan to increase the number of parcel lockers doors by as much as 64%,” explained Mickus.

In Estonia, volumes have recently been growing a lot in Ida-Viru County, Lasnamäe and North Tallinn. These are therefore the areas where we plan to expand our network the most.  But South Estonia is also in focus.

“We are adding significant amount of new parcel locker locations and also expanding existing parcel lockers at many congested destinations. From the consumer’s point of view, this means that they can receive their parcels more conveniently,” added Head of Smartpost Itella Baltics.

“The use of parcel lockers is gaining more and more consumer support, and we must be able to keep up with our customers’ expectations and offer them the best and highest quality customer experience,” Mickus said.

Smartpost Itella has the second largest network in Estonia in terms of coverage with a total of 325 locations. But Smartpost’s widest network in the Baltics is actually in Lithuania: there are 338 locations. In total, Smartpost already has 937 parcel lockers/parcel points in the Baltics.
