Smartpost takes Estonian disc golf to new levels

The Estonian Discgolf Association and Itella Estonia OÜ signed a sponsorship agreement to take the disc sports to a new level. The most important national disc golf event of the year is named Smartpost Itella’s Estonian Discgolf Championship 2022 and it will be the first time the event will take place at the A-Tier.

According to Timo Juursalu, president of the Estonian Discgolf Association, Smartpost’s contribution is worth much more than mere cash. This partnership will benefit the Association’s goal for this year, which is to offer more prize money at competition level to increase support for the emergence of professional players.

“Disc golf is still growing, but more in terms of quality than volume, and our support systems have to start enabling the emergence of professionals, i.e. they have to allow players to increasingly give up their daily work to dedicate to training,” says Juursalu, adding that “none of that would be possible today without Smartpost’s help. And that makes them the leading sponsor of Estonian disc golf.”

Itella Estonia OÜ are no strangers to disc golf. They have been partnered with several equipment importers for years now. There is also widespread interest in disc golf within the company and a couple of names on the company’s roster – Allan Kask and Rauno Pappo – should be familiar to fans of the sports who keep an eye on who ends up on the podium. Itella Estonia’s Customer Experience Manager Triin Parmsoo explains that Itella finds physical activity very important.

“Itella supports its employees’ endeavours to get physical exercise. In particular, we support outdoor activities which don’t involve heating and energy expenditure and are therefore more environmentally friendly,” says Parmsoo about the advantages of disc golf.

The fact that a number of sports clubs in different fields have been established within the popularity of disc golf is plain to see, and decisive when it came to making the decision to help organise the Estonian Championship at the highest level yet.

An A-tier competition, according to the international standards of the Professional Disc Golf Association (PDGA), i.e. outside the USA and Canada, refers to a prize fund of at least 75% of the participation fees. The Estonian Discgolf Association has never held a competition like this.

The Estonian Discgolf Association and Itella Estonia have been in contact since the end of 2021 to talk about ways to complement each other and contribute to each other’s success. A sponsorship agreement was signed between the Estonian Discgolf Association and Itella Estonia at the start of April.
